In the far north of Great Britain, where the Atlantic Ocean and the North Sea meet and Gaelic and Norse influences blend, people adapt their self-sufficient way of life to the tide of the ocean. This project is a panorama penetrated on the current status in and around Caithness. A place has always been forgotten.

I was impressed with people's strong self-identity as soon as I arrived in this place in 2011. The awareness of being a Caithnesser or Highlander kept emerging among conversations. At the same time, strong relationships among local people and a sense of joining added to this awareness.Knowing the miserable history of Highland Clearances and later the economic role as both beneficiary and victim by the commission and decommission of Dounreay Fast Reactor, I am intrigued to see how all those influences and pressures have eroded their self-identity, like waves hitting the coast.
