Still Here

After been thrown out of their traditional lands, people resettled to the coast areas began to accept the new living methods, which in most cases was sea fishing. Although they had no idea what fishing like and how to deal with life depending on the sea, they survived. For people who chose to stay in Caithness, Thurso and Wick were two major cities to live. Wick, once the herring capital of Europe, now has the highest unemployment rate in the Highland which may means also in the UK. And there are no fishing industry in Wick anymore. The fishing industry in Caithness declined and a few running harbors rely on crabs and lobsters which are sold to Spain and France to make benefits. Thurso, on the other hand, although enjoyed the big benefits from the commission of Doureay Nuclear Power Development, while with nowadays decommission of Doureay, needs another approach to define its economic future.
